Concrete Patio with Covered Structure

My first project with this family was in 2018. They had a stamped concrete patio and pergola that had been recently installed and now they wanted to add plants around the space and update the front yard.

These homeowners where referred to me by another contractor and I ended up not only designing the project but also helped to sell and manage the installation as well. It was one of the first projects where I had the opportunity to be involved in more than just the design process.

In the summer of 2020 I was contacted by the homeowners again. They where in the middle of building a new house and wanted to have the landscaping installed shortly after they closed on the mortgage so they could start enjoying the backyard as soon as possible.

At that point the house was still a concrete slab and I was in the middle of transitioning to work for Property Pros full time. I ended working on the design as freelance designer and then estimating it as a full time employee. This family had big dreams for their new outdoor living space and I was excited to be a part of it.

The backyard overlooked a large neighborhood pond which made for a spectacular view. The homeowners wanted to make sure they could enjoy the space as much as possible- come raining or shine- so high on their wish list was a A-frame roofed structure, and a fire pit.

Since the property was next to a pond there was a pretty steep slope so the design incorporates a retaining wall that doubles as seating wall around the fire pit, along with some boulders near the pavilion to retain the mulch. During the design process the homeowners also added a DCS build-in grill with a granite counter top. The design was beautiful and everyone was excited to see it installed!

The project broke ground in the spring of 2021 when supply chain issues regarding construction supplies was as its peak. A combination of delays from back orders, and a cold rainy spring dragged the project out.

Large projects like this one always take longer than most people expect. Landscaping is no longer a “get in and get out as fast as possible” industry. Between the carpenters, electricians, plumbers running the gas line and the 3-4 week turn around time for fabricating the granite, there is a lot of moving pieces and the ability to execute it well takes an extremely talented team.

I’m very proud of the Property Pros Team that install this design and I’m honored to have had the opportunity to work with this family on two different projects.
